SCCMHA Towerline staff growing their self-care with garden club

Planting seeds for self-care.

The staff at Towerline’s SCCMHA location takes that thought literally with the creation of a garden club.

Positioned behind the building, six makeshift gardens sit, growing flowers, tomatoes, lettuce, even different types of peppers.

Michael Essenmacher, who established the group thought being able to have this outlet to help staff exercise some time for themselves.

“We preach coping skills to a lot of our persons served,” Michael said. “I thought it was important that we practice what we preach.”

With only a few participating in this first year, Michael hopes to see the club expand in the years to come.

“I’ve had several staff members already tell me they regret not taking part,” Michael said. “I think next year we should have a lot more participating. We definitely have the space for it back there!”
