Community Ties South holds 70s themed prom for persons served
Who remembers their prom?
That fun night filled with dancing, music and great moments with our friends.
At Communities Ties South, persons served by SCCMHA were able to take part in their very own prom.
In years past, CTS would partner with Community Ties North to host a prom together, but CTS decided to hold their very own to accommodate more of those who take part in their programs.
The focus of these proms is to give the opportunities to persons served who otherwise wouldn’t have or never had the chance to attend one of their own.
“This is one of the fun parts of what we do,” said CTS Program Coordinator Anne Midcalf. “We want them to experience all the same things everybody else does and make them feel special.
Anne further said the lead up to the prom gave a lot excitement in the air in the halls of CTS.
“Everyone was asking each other if they were going, what they were going to wear,” Anne said. “They really got into the spirit.”
Themed for the 70s and playing an eclectic mix of songs from that era, persons served took to the dance floor to enjoy themselves.
In addition to the dancing, everyone was able to have their photos taken to remember the event and share with their families.
One of the main reasons for putting on this event falls on the fact that not many chances for activities like this present themselves to the persons served by CTS.
“A lot of those who come here are adults,” Anne said. “There’s not a lot of programs available for them at this age, so giving them the chance to have fun and dance and get dressed up is something they really love doing.”
“We want them to have the special moments we all have.”
